Who influences decisions?
Officially, the HOD approves the proposal. But everyone knows the CEO will always ask Finance for their opinion first. So, if Finance isn’t convinced, your proposal is already in trouble before it even reaches the CEO.
Why does some ideas get approved?
Two employees propose almost identical ideas. Employee A emails the proposal. Employee B spends two weeks talking to stakeholders and campaigning buy in. Guess whose proposal sails through the meeting?
Who gets promoted?
Many employees think promotions are based only on performance. I don’t disagree. Performance is necessary. But visibility, credibility, trust, reputation, and sponsorship (so important) often determine who gets considered. After all, to advocate for you, senior leaders first need to know your work.
Why do some requests get answered immediately?
Have you noticed this? One person sends an email and waits two weeks. Another person makes one phone call and everything gets sorted that afternoon. That’s relationship capital.
Happy weekend, everyone! Learn to understand how decisions actually get made and how things actually happen within your organisation. Trust me, it will come in very handy when we need to get things done.
