Your Virtual Interview Checklist

☑️ Test your internet 30 minutes before the interview. Make sure you have the interview link.

☑️ Have your phone fully charged and ready to use as a hotspot if your Wi-Fi fails.

☑️ Keep the interviewer’s phone number or email address handy in case you get disconnected.

☑️ Test your camera, microphone and speakers.

☑️ Plug your laptop into the charger. Don’t rely on the battery.

☑️ Close unnecessary apps and browser tabs.

☑️ Sit somewhere with good lighting (so important!) and a quiet background.

☑️ Keep your resume and notes besides you.

☑️ Keep a glass of water nearby.

☑️ Dress professionally from head to toe (just in case you need to stand up 😜).

☑️ Join the meeting 10 minutes early.

☑️ Look into the camera when speaking. Don’t stare at yourself.

☑️ Smile before you enter the meeting. First impressions still matter online.

If your internet suddenly dies, email or message the interviewer immediately, apologise briefly, explain the situation and reconnect as quickly as you can.

Remember, how you can recover from a problem often leaves a stronger impression than the problem itself.

All the best with your job interview!
