Yesterday, a new found friend told me this, “Experience is better than knowledge with no application.”
It reminded me this time when the team was pitching for a project that they had been following up for months. During the final stages of the pitching, my sales guy came to me and said, “Ling, their boss has some questions about operations. Can I bring you to meet him?”
Absolutely. Because 1. I am indeed knowledgeable. 2. And I gained those knowledge mostly from my decade of experience, mostly from mistakes. 3. Hence, it does make me ops savvy.
I went to see the client. Nailed every single question he had. And we were awarded the project the following day.
But what was more exciting for me was when I learnt part of the client’s decision to award the project to us was because of my experience and knowledge. It was such an ecstatic feeling. Now, the serotonin came out to play too. It’s really an emotion I want to experience over and again.
So I continue to absorb the emotions as I go through life. Be it good or bad. Continue to learn from every experience I can get to enhance my knowledge.
For with knowledge, comes power. With power, comes confidence. And confidence will lead us to win.
