Yesterday a friend asked me, “If the employee is under quarantine, it should be under medical leave instead of no pay leave, right?”
Yes.
She then continued saying, “My HR insisted it to be under annual leave.”
Huh?
If it’s a directive of MOH/Company, it should be under medical leave. As simple as that. I also told her to remind her HR the importance of empathy in the workplace. Moreover, the employee didn’t choose to be infected.
What I have learnt in this pandemic that it has demanded us in HR to show greater compassion towards one another. Emotions are running on a high now. Fear. Frustration. Anxiety. Stress. Grief.
So the workaround is that we have to render each other better emotional support. As simple as that too.
