I know this person. She was given the task to lead a team. She failed. Then she was given another chance to do it again. She declined. She said, “Once bitten, twice shy. Phobic I am.”
I’m sure a lot of us could relate to that story of my friend. A bad experience could be very bitter indeed that we do not want a taste of it anymore.
But as cliche as it sounds, time will heal wounds. So eventually this friend of mine, after some years, was given another chance to lead a team again. This time, she took a deep breath and accepted. Like all good endings, she did well because she was prepared.
That was when I have learnt that we don’t have to bounce back immediately. Some people just take more time than others. If we need take more time, we should. And when we are ready, we try again.
