Managers always believe that money is the key motivator for employee retention and loss of talent. But from my experience, employees leave for different reasons and compensation is often not the case. Performers leave because:
1. No positive relationship with the their manager itself. This has always topped the list.
2. No perceived growth opportunities. I mean, who wants to get stuck?
3. They feel their work is not valued internally nor it was seen as being important. Everybody wants to be recognized for their efforts.
4. Unclear expectations.
The employee experience is utmost important when it comes to retention. Keep the employees motivated, create a sense of belonging. Always communicate with them a career development plan & often from the frequent communications, we managers would be able to sniff the signs that they are planning to leave. So we can do something about it before it’s too late.
Retention is everyone’s responsibility – from the top, to the bottom, from side to side. And it’s not always about the money. So engage, engage, engage.
Happy weekend everybody. This weekend I want to engage myself too, finally found the time to go watch Batman.
