The other day, I was attending a talk & the speaker shared this video. It also reminded me about the contents in the resume & this is how I can relate the resume being the mayonnaise jar.
In your resume, the most essential component is your experience, hence to me, your professional experience are just like the golf balls. Because most of the time, hiring managers value your experience the most. So describe clearly with verbs what your experience are that matters.
Then, the pebbles are other personal information that is important in a resume like your qualifications, your professional certifications and of course, your contact details!
Then the sand, “everything else, the small stuff” like… your personal interest or a nice smiley professional picture.
The space in your resume is limited just like the mayonnaise jar. So we also need to prioritize and take care of the important things first, if it makes sense.
